The St. John Vianney Trust
Faced with the rising number of retired priests, as well as skyrocketing medical costs, Bishop Caggiano established the St. John Vianney Trust as a dedicated 501(c)(3) with the mission of supporting retired priests of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
This special fund supplements the priests’ pension, covering the costs of rising living expenses. Our goal is raise $2.5 million annually within the next five years to meet these growing needs.

A Practical Matter
The Rising Number of Retired Priests
Our projections show that over the next 15 years the number of retired clergy is expected to increase by 50% to well over 100 priests. This reality, coupled with longer life expectancy, means there will be more priests who require higher levels of care. After much deliberation, beginning a new fund to address this growing need was judged to be the most prudent way to ensure the well-being of our aging priests.
Priests’ Retirement Home
Queen of the Clergy
Queen of the Clergy is a beautiful home in Stamford where many of our retired priests find fraternity and support. A dedicated staff ensures the residence is warm and welcoming, with good meals, clean spaces, and a spirit of hospitality. Many of the resident priests are busy serving in local parishes. When pastors are out of town, they know they can rely on our retired priests for sacramental coverage.

Perseverance in ministry
Continuing to Serve
“Even when I am old and gray, you will not forsake me, my God,
until I declare your power to the next generation”
Psalm 71:18
A Work of Mercy
Retired priests are the ‘grandfathers’ of our parish families, and while their strength wanes, our responsibility to care for them grows. Especially for our elderly and vulnerable priests, this is our opportunity to show love, tenderness, and mercy. When we provide for our priests in their time of need, we are not only performing an act of charity—we are fulfilling Christ’s command
The Queen of Clergy residence is a comfortable home for about one-third of our retired priests.
Repaying Their Service
A Spiritual Duty
